What It’s Like to Work With Me: The Dorothy Seed Wedding Flower Experience

Your wedding flowers should be more than something beautiful to look at. They should help create how your wedding feels.
For me, wedding floristry has never been about simply receiving a list of flowers, creating the arrangements and turning up on the morning of your wedding.
I want to know you.
I want to understand what matters to you, what you love, what you don't love, how you want your wedding to feel and, perhaps most importantly, how you want your guests to feel when they walk into the space you've created.
Because flowers can completely transform a wedding.
They can soften a room, bring the outside in, create a sense of abundance, guide people through a space and turn an already beautiful venue into something that feels completely yours.
So, what is it actually like to work with me?
1. It starts with a little hello
The first step is getting in touch through my website.
You don't need to have everything figured out before you enquire. You might have a very clear vision already, or you might simply know that you want lots of beautiful, natural, garden-inspired flowers and have no idea where to start.
That's completely fine.
Once I receive your enquiry, we'll arrange an initial video consultation.
And this isn't just about me asking what flowers you'd like.
It's a chance for us to get to know each other.
I'll want to hear about your wedding, your venue, your ideas, the things you're drawn to and the atmosphere you're hoping to create.
It's also a chance for you to get to know me and see whether we're the right fit for each other.
I think that's really important.
You'll be trusting me with a significant part of your wedding day, so I want you to feel comfortable, understood and excited about working together.

2. Securing your date
If we both feel like it's the right fit, we'll go ahead and secure your wedding date.
From there, the fun really begins.
You don't need to hand me a perfectly finished brief and disappear until your wedding day.
I prefer a more collaborative approach.
3. Getting to know your venue
Where possible, I'll visit your wedding venue with you.
Seeing a space in person makes such a difference.
I'll look at the architecture, the gardens, the light, the surrounding landscape and the details that make the venue special.
I'll think about where flowers can have the greatest impact.
Perhaps that's a dramatic floral installation that transforms a room.
Perhaps it's an abundant meadow-like ceremony design that feels as though it has grown there naturally.
Perhaps it's flowers spilling from urns, climbing around an entrance or creating little pockets of colour throughout your reception.
The aim isn't simply to put flowers in the obvious places.
It's to make the flowers feel as though they belong there.

4. We keep talking
One of my favourite parts of the process is that the conversation doesn't stop after the initial consultation.
Your ideas might change.
You might find a photograph you absolutely love.
You might suddenly become obsessed with a particular colour, flower or texture.
You might decide that you want to go bigger.
And sometimes, I'll have an idea that takes your original vision somewhere you hadn't considered.
That's part of the creative process.
I'll share ideas, flowers, textures, photographs and inspiration with you as we develop the design together.
5. Creating your floral mood board
We'll bring all of those ideas together into a visual direction for your wedding flowers.
Your mood board isn't simply a collection of pretty pictures.
It's about creating a feeling.
Colour.
Texture.
Movement.
Shape.
Seasonality.
The relationship between the flowers and your venue.
And the overall atmosphere you want your wedding to have.
I love flowers that feel natural, abundant and a little bit unexpected — flowers that aren't too rigid or perfectly controlled, but have movement and personality.
That might mean soft, romantic garden flowers spilling in every direction, sculptural branches, seasonal British blooms or a much larger installation designed to completely change the feeling of a space.
Your flowers should feel like you, rather than something copied from somebody else's wedding.

6. Then comes the big day
This is where everything we've talked about becomes real.
I'll arrive with my team and the flowers and begin bringing the plans to life.
There might be bouquets, buttonholes and wearable flowers.
There might be ceremony flowers, urns, arches, meadow-like installations, floral clouds or flowers throughout your reception.
Whatever we've created together, my job is to make sure it all comes together beautifully.
And then?
You don't need to worry about it.
You just get to get married.
I'll make sure the flowers are where they need to be, move arrangements from ceremony to reception where appropriate, style everything and take care of the details.
Because you've got enough to think about.

7. My job doesn't end when you say "I do"
One of the things that is really important to me is looking after the flowers — and you — beyond the ceremony itself.
I'll take care of dismantling and collecting what needs to be returned, and where arrangements can be reused during the day, I'll make sure they're moved and restyled appropriately.
I'll also return the following day where needed to collect flowers, mechanics and equipment.
You shouldn't have to think about any of that.
Your wedding day is for being present.
For eating the food.
Drinking the champagne.
Dancing badly.
Hugging the people you love.
And noticing all those little moments you've spent so long planning.

8. And then we plant a tree
There is one final part of the process that means a lot to me.
For every couple I work with, I plant a native British tree through The National Forest.
Of course, a tree doesn't magically erase the environmental impact of a wedding. I don't believe in pretending that it does.
But I love the idea of making a positive, lasting contribution alongside the work we do to reduce waste and make more thoughtful choices throughout your wedding flowers.
Your wedding lasts one beautiful day.
A tree can keep growing long afterwards.
And I think there's something rather lovely about that.
A living reminder of a day that marked the beginning of something new.

Why I work this way
Because I believe your wedding flowers matter.
If you're choosing to invest in beautiful wedding flowers, I want to understand why.
Maybe it's because you've always loved flowers.
Maybe you want your guests to walk into your venue and immediately feel something.
Maybe you want to completely transform a space.
Maybe you've dreamed of an abundant, flower-filled wedding for years.
Maybe you want the flowers to feel wild, natural and as though they've always belonged in the landscape around you.
Whatever the reason, I want your flowers to have an impact.
Not just in photographs, but in the experience of your wedding.
I want them to create atmosphere.
I want them to make people stop for a moment.
I want them to make your guests say, wow.
And I want you to walk into your wedding space and feel that little rush of excitement because it looks even better than you imagined.
That's why I don't see myself as simply your florist.
I'm part designer, part sounding board, part problem solver and, sometimes, part flower enthusiast who gets very excited about a particularly beautiful branch.
I'll take your ideas, bring my own creativity to them and create something that feels personal, abundant, nature-led and completely at home in its surroundings.
Because when flowers matter to you, I want them to matter to me too.
And perhaps that's why, ultimately, we choose each other.
